Boys Camp 2013

During the month of June The Mercury Hibberdene Children's Holiday Home played host to 15 of our I Care boys, along with other underprivileged children and as you can see by the picture they had a wonderful time.
The itinerary uncluded team building, leadership, adventure activities, survivor bush camps and sports and cultural activities arranged by the educators employed by the Home.
The Home also supplied all the food which included fruit, vegetables, sweets, biscuits, beverages etc. and three daily meals - enough to fill any empty tummy.

Lucky

This is Lucky, one of our Johannesburg boys, learning how to make pizzas. According to those who have sampled Lucky's wares, he makes a 'pretty mean' pizza.
He is also trying his hand at photography and after only a few lessons is showing some skill in that field too. He has taken some beautiful pictures of the animals in Johannesburg Zoo.

Watch this space.

Johannesburg Outreach Boys

Here are our Johannesburg Outreach boys enjoying  an art lesson with Claudia.

Claudia has been doing a splendid job helping them and has now also branched out into photography with them.

We are all very grateful, especially the boys whose artwork is improving hugely as they grow in confidence.

Barefoot Day

Durban Girls College celebrated Barefoot Day on April 16 by going to school without shoes, raising awareness of those who do not possess such 'luxuries'. They collected twelve boxes of shoes that day and donated them to I Care for us to distribute to street children. Because of this kind gesture there are now a lot of children who have shoes on their feet for the first time and, let's face it, even in Durban bare feet can be chilly at night in winter.
So, our thanks go out to the girls from Durban Girls High for their generosity and their bravery in attending school without shoes on April 16.
The picture shows some of the girls with just a few of the many pairs of shoes which were donated.

Tenth Annual Golf Day

We held our Tenth Annual Golf Day at the Royal Durban Golf Club on Thursday, 11 April. Everybody - players and staff alike - had a most successful and enjoyable day on the golf course and afterwards in the club house for a fun evening with entertainment by some of our I Care boys.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants, especially the six players pictured above as they have played in every single I Care Golf Day since its inauguration. They were presented with a special certificate acknowledging their on-going support for the I Care Golf Days over the years. Pictured above with Butch James who presented all the prizes are the six golfers - James Davey (Honel), Dhangee Puran (PKF), Sunny Singh (Old Mutual), Gareth Adendorff  and Gerry Nijhuis (PKF) with Suri Chetty (Unichem) in front. The two winners -
Mike Buchanan and Mike Smith - represented EE Tarr. They were presented with the Ken Bain Memorial Trophy and their prizes by Butch James.

Swimming Lessons

Here are some of our boys having their first swimming lessons from Mandla Cele who is the pool supervisor at the Windermere Municipal Swimming Pool.
Learning how to swim is, in our books, a very important part of a child's education. Perhaps at a later stage we will be able to incorporate life-saving lessons for the better swimmers.
Mr. Cele is doing a great job and we appreciate his kindness in giving his time to our boys.

Easter Eggs for Africa

Easter is upon us - again - and with it comes the annual gift of Easter Eggs from our wonderful freinds at Crawford Preparatory School North Coast.
Every year these kind young people remember those who are less fortunate than themselves and they fill a bakki (see picture) with hundreds of Easter Eggs for our boys to feast on.
As always, we are most grateful to the school and hope that their Easter will be as happy as ours is bound to be, thanks to their generosity.
