Inside the new Hope Centre

The interior of our Hope Centre has undergone a complete transformation. The decorators have been very busy and, though not entirely finished, is already in use, helping the children who come to us off the streets.
This is the kitchen.

The Hope Centre - before

This is a pictures of our new Hope Centre in Stamford Hill Road before we began renovations. It was originally the Kwasuka Theatre and is attached to the Methodist Church. A lot of renovation and hard work is required but we are up to the task. Update to follow.

I CARE HOPE CENTRE

In order to be more effective in dealing with children on the streets we need a base from where our Outreach Team can operate and a facility that will offer the following services, while these children's problems are being addressed abd plans for their future being made.

Professional Services - Feeding Scheme -

Medical Nutritional Meals
Psychological
AIDS & HIV Counselling

Extra Mural Activities - Educational -

Art/Pottery Computer Centre
Drama/Music
Surfing
Basketball etc

It is also envisaged that this centre would serve the neighbourhood children by setting up a homework assistance centre.

Our new Hope Centre, located in the Methdist Church, Greyville will, eventually, provide all the above.

Education & Extra Mural Activities

Gill, our Principal at the school, reports that several much needed innovations have been added since the beginning of the year. New padded chairs have replaced the old cracked and broken plastic ones, a white board has been installed in ths second classroom, plus new shelving and a carousel for scoring keys.
The boys have been taken on several outings - to Tala Game Park, to a raptor sanctuary and to the Durban Art Gallery. All were much appreciated and enjoyed.
Several of the boys have been receiving tennis tuition and a couple are proving pretty handy with a racquet in hand.

Three New Homes

The three houses in Lower Illovo were completed at the end of February and the boys moved in beginning of March. Within a matter of days the boys were feeling quite at home. The "Handing Over" ceremony took place on March 11.
