Amastreetkid, The I CARE Blog, about "giving street kids a future"

Blogging about I Care, a Non-Profit Organization giving street children a future, a chance to become an effective member of society and to remove them from the influences of crime. Our process involves Awareness, Outreach, Rehabilitation, Housing, Education and Skills Development.

Johannesburg Outreach Boys

Here are our Johannesburg Outreach boys enjoying  an art lesson with Claudia.

Claudia has been doing a splendid job helping them and has now also branched out into photography with them.

We are all very grateful, especially the boys whose artwork is improving hugely as they grow in confidence.

Barefoot Day

Durban Girls College celebrated Barefoot Day on April 16 by going to school without shoes, raising awareness of those who do not possess such 'luxuries'. They collected twelve boxes of shoes that day and donated them to I Care for us to distribute to street children. Because of this kind gesture there are now a lot of children who have shoes on their feet for the first time and, let's face it, even in Durban bare feet can be chilly at night in winter.
So, our thanks go out to the girls from Durban Girls High for their generosity and their bravery in attending school without shoes on April 16.
The picture shows some of the girls with just a few of the many pairs of shoes which were donated.

Tenth Annual Golf Day

We held our Tenth Annual Golf Day at the Royal Durban Golf Club on Thursday, 11 April. Everybody - players and staff alike - had a most successful and enjoyable day on the golf course and afterwards in the club house for a fun evening with entertainment by some of our I Care boys.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the participants, especially the six players pictured above as they have played in every single I Care Golf Day since its inauguration. They were presented with a special certificate acknowledging their on-going support for the I Care Golf Days over the years. Pictured above with Butch James who presented all the prizes are the six golfers - James Davey (Honel), Dhangee Puran (PKF), Sunny Singh (Old Mutual), Gareth Adendorff  and Gerry Nijhuis (PKF) with Suri Chetty (Unichem) in front. The two winners -
Mike Buchanan and Mike Smith - represented EE Tarr. They were presented with the Ken Bain Memorial Trophy and their prizes by Butch James.
